Chicago Red Line Maintains Safety With Track Work
CTA Red Line bypasses Addison station for track repairs, riders must transfer at nearby stops
CTA Red Line Skips Addison for Track Work
Chicago Red Line riders heading south won't be able to board or exit at Addison station during planned track maintenance, the Chicago Transit Authority said. The work affects 95th-bound trains, which will bypass the station entirely while crews perform safety-related track repairs. Officials didn't specify when the maintenance period will end.

Safety Maintenance Requires Service Adjustment
The maintenance work is being performed to ensure trains continue to operate safely along the Red Line, according to the transit agency. Track maintenance typically involves rail inspection, replacement of worn components, and infrastructure repairs that require trains to operate on modified schedules. The CTA classified this as planned work with reroute, which means Train Tracker estimations may be affected during the maintenance period. Officials said adjacent stations will continue normal operations.
Passengers Must Transfer at Nearby Stations
Riders needing service from Addison should take a Howard-bound train to Sheridan or Wilson and transfer to a 95th-bound train, the CTA said. For service to Addison, passengers should take a 95th-bound train to Belmont and transfer to a Howard-bound train. At Sheridan station, passengers should board and exit trains in both directions on the 95th-bound platform due to the service configuration. Adjacent Red Line stations at Sheridan and Belmont will continue to operate normally with trains stopping in both directions.

Timeline and System-Wide Service Status
Officials advised passengers to allow extra travel time during the maintenance period but didn't provide a specific end date for the work. The Red Line currently has planned work with reroute status, while the Blue Line also has planned work and the Green Line has a special note, according to the CTA. Other 'L' lines including Brown, Orange, Pink, Purple, and Yellow are operating with normal service.
What Riders Need to Know
The service change requires riders who normally use Addison station to plan alternative routes using nearby stops at Sheridan, Wilson, or Belmont. Officials said the maintenance is necessary to maintain safe operations along one of Chicago's busiest rail lines.
