Boston Transit Scales Up for World Cup Matches
Massachusetts launches transit campaign for seven World Cup matches at Gillette Stadium
Massachusetts Urges Transit Use for World Cup
Massachusetts residents heading to FIFA World Cup matches this summer should leave their cars at home and take public transit instead, state officials said. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation launched its 'Kick the Drive' campaign to reduce traffic congestion during seven matches at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, temporarily renamed Boston Stadium for the tournament. Governor Maura Healey emphasized the importance of planning ahead to ensure everyone can travel safely and reliably during the event.

Peak Travel Times Prompt Work-From-Home Push
Many World Cup matches are scheduled during peak afternoon and evening travel times in June and July, creating potential gridlock on major highways and local roads. Officials are asking commuters to consider working from home or adjusting their travel schedules on game days. MassDOT is collaborating with municipalities, employers, and regional partners to promote flexible work schedules and increased transit use. The campaign aims to help everyone reach their destinations in a timely manner while mitigating traffic congestion throughout the region.
Transit Options Include Rail and Bus Service
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is offering round-trip event trains between South Station and Boston Stadium, with 14 trains per match at a cost of $80. Boston 26 provides the official Stadium Express bus service connecting various Greater Boston locations to the stadium for $95 round-trip. Interim Secretary of Transportation Phillip Eng urged the public to avoid the stadium area without tickets and to use mass transportation options. Officials said the expanded transit service is designed to accommodate the expected surge in ridership during match days.

Seven Matches Set for June and July
Seven World Cup matches will take place at the Foxborough venue during June and July, though officials haven't released specific match dates or kickoff times for all games. The campaign encourages residents, commuters, and visitors to plan ahead and avoid driving when possible. Transit officials said they'll provide additional service details closer to each match date.
Riders Can Track Transit Options
Commuters and World Cup attendees will need to monitor transit schedules closely as match days approach, officials said. The state is working to ensure reliable service throughout the tournament period. Riders can use Moovit to track real-time updates for MBTA trains and Stadium Express buses serving the venue, helping them plan their trips and avoid delays during this high-traffic period.
