BCT Renames Mobile App to RideBCT

Broward County Transit riders can now plan trips, track buses in real time, and pay fares through a single mobile app. The transit agency rebranded its BCT Mobile Ticketing App as RideBCT, consolidating features that previously required multiple platforms. The app's available for download now on Apple and Android devices, transit officials said.

Integrated Platform Simplifies Rider Experience

The rebranding reflects a broader shift among transit agencies to streamline digital services for riders who increasingly rely on smartphones for travel information. RideBCT combines trip planning powered by Google integration with real-time bus tracking and mobile fare payment in one interface. The app supports Apple Pay and Google Pay for contactless transactions. Transit agencies typically consolidate mobile services to reduce the number of apps riders need to download and improve overall user experience.

Real-Time Tracking Across Multiple Platforms

BCT buses now transmit real-time location data to multiple third-party platforms beyond the agency's own app. The transit system's vehicle positions appear on the regional SoFloGO mobile app, which integrates service information from Broward County Transit, Miami-Dade Transit, Palm Tran, and Tri-Rail into a single platform. Officials said the multi-platform approach gives riders flexibility in how they access bus arrival information. The agency didn't specify when the real-time tracking integration began or how many riders use third-party platforms versus the official app.

Reduced Fare Registration Requires In-Person Visit

Riders seeking reduced fare passes must visit one of four BCT locations for account creation by a customer service agent. Registration sites include Broward Central Terminal, Lauderhill Transit Center, Northeast Transit Center, and Government Center West. Customers need to bring original proof of age, disability, or student status along with a valid government-issued photo ID. Officials didn't say whether online registration will become available in the future.

Digital Tools Expand Access to Service Information

The app consolidation gives Broward County Transit riders a single point of access for planning and paying for trips. Riders can sign up for the agency's eNewsletter, Transit Flash, to receive service updates and rider news. Moovit provides real-time updates and trip planning for BCT routes along with thousands of other transit systems worldwide, helping riders navigate Broward County's bus network with current arrival predictions and service alerts.
