BART closes Civic Center's 7th and Market entrance May 4 for canopy glass replacement
BART Closes Civic Center Entrance May 4 for Work
BART riders who use the Civic Center Station entrance at 7th and Market Streets will need to use a different entrance on Monday, May 4, 2026. The Bay Area Rapid Transit announced the south-side entrance will be closed for one day for canopy glass replacement work. Both the street escalator and adjacent stairway at this entrance won't be accessible during the closure, transit officials said.

Maintenance Part of Station Improvements
The temporary closure is part of BART's ongoing station improvement program, according to the transit agency. The canopy glass replacement work requires full closure of the entrance to ensure worker and public safety during the installation. Station infrastructure maintenance is conducted regularly across the BART system to maintain facility conditions and rider safety. Officials said the work is scheduled for completion within the single-day closure period.
Alternative Entrances Remain Available
The closed entrance is located on the south side of Market Street at 7th Street. Riders can use the alternative Civic Center Station entrance directly across Market Street on the north side, which will remain fully operational during the closure. All other Civic Center Station entrances will stay open and available for normal use. The closure affects only one of multiple access points to the station, minimizing overall impact to riders accessing the downtown San Francisco transit hub.
Single-Day Closure Set for May 4
The entrance closure will take effect Monday, May 4, 2026, for the duration of the workday. BART officials said the work is scheduled to be completed within the one-day timeframe, with the entrance expected to reopen for normal service the following day. The agency didn't provide specific hours for the closure but indicated it would last the full day to allow contractors to complete the canopy glass replacement.

Riders Advised to Plan Ahead
BART encourages riders who regularly use the 7th and Market south-side entrance to plan accordingly and allow extra time to access the station through alternative entrances on May 4. Riders unfamiliar with other Civic Center Station access points should review station layouts before the closure date.
