Avanti West Coast Services Resume After Emergency

Avanti West Coast Faces Delays After Emergency
Avanti West Coast passengers traveling between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central should expect continued delays through the end of Thursday service, transit officials said. Emergency services completed work between Watford Junction and Milton Keynes Central at 3:06 p.m. Thursday, allowing lines to reopen, but residual disruption continues to affect multiple routes. Trains may be cancelled, revised or delayed by up to 25 minutes.

Multiple Routes Affected Across Network
The disruption affects Avanti West Coast services running from London Euston to Birmingham New Street, Wolverhampton, Crewe, Chester, Manchester Piccadilly, Preston, Blackpool North, Glasgow Central and Edinburgh. Emergency services' work between Watford Junction and Milton Keynes Central required temporary line closures earlier Thursday. The incident created cascading delays across the operator's network, affecting both short-distance commuter routes and long-distance intercity services to Scotland and northwest England.
Alternative Travel Options Available
Passengers can use their Avanti West Coast tickets on alternative services at no extra cost, officials said. Accepted operators include Chiltern Railways, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, LNER, London Northwestern Railway, Great Western Railway, Northern, ScotRail, TransPennine Express and West Midlands Railway. If trains are cancelled, tickets remain valid on two Avanti West Coast services immediately before or after the booked train. Passengers who no longer wish to travel can request full refunds from their point of purchase.

Extended Ticket Validity and Refund Options
Tickets dated Thursday, April 23 can be used to travel on Friday, April 24 services, transit officials confirmed. The extended validity gives passengers flexibility to reschedule journeys affected by Thursday's disruption. Passengers who experience delays in completing their journey may be entitled to compensation under rail delay repayment schemes. Officials said passengers should retain tickets and travel receipts to support any compensation claims.
Journey Planning Complicated by Underground Strike
London Underground services are also impacted by industrial action Thursday, requiring passengers to consider alternative connections between London terminals. Replacement vehicles may be busier than usual and passengers should allow extra time for their journey, officials said. The combination of Avanti West Coast delays and Underground disruption creates particular challenges for passengers connecting between rail services at different London stations. Moovit provides real-time updates for Avanti West Coast services and alternative route options across the affected network.
