Arlington Bus Stop Shifts for Construction Work
Four WMATA bus routes to skip Arlington stop through May 18 due to construction
WMATA Closes Arlington Bus Stop for Construction
Four WMATA bus routes will skip a stop in Arlington for nearly a month starting April 20 due to construction work. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced the bus stop at North Fairfax Drive at North Utah Street will be temporarily closed through May 18, 2026. Routes A58, A70, A76, and F50 will be affected by the closure, which impacts stop ID #6000530.

Construction Work Drives Month-Long Closure
The temporary closure is necessary to accommodate construction activities in the Arlington area, transit officials said. WMATA typically closes bus stops when roadwork or infrastructure projects make it unsafe or impractical for buses to access the location. The agency schedules such closures to minimize disruption while allowing essential construction to proceed. The stop serves a busy corridor connecting residential areas to the Ballston Metro station and surrounding commercial district.
Alternative Stop Designated at Ballston Station
Passengers who normally use the North Fairfax Drive stop are advised to board and exit buses at Ballston Station Bus Bay K instead, according to WMATA. The alternative stop, designated as stop ID #6000531, will serve as the temporary boarding location for all four affected routes throughout the construction period. The Ballston Station bus bays provide covered waiting areas and real-time arrival information displays. Officials said the alternative location is designed to accommodate the additional passenger volume during the closure.

Closure Runs Through Mid-May
The bus stop closure is scheduled to begin Monday, April 20, 2026, and continue through Monday, May 18, 2026, transit officials confirmed. Normal service at the original North Fairfax Drive stop location is expected to resume after May 18. WMATA didn't provide details about the specific construction project requiring the closure or whether the timeline could be extended if work isn't completed on schedule.
Riders Should Plan for Route Changes
Passengers who regularly use the affected stop should allow extra time to reach the alternative boarding location at Ballston Station, transit officials said. The change may require riders to walk additional blocks depending on their origin or destination. WMATA encourages customers to check for service updates before traveling, and Moovit provides real-time bus arrival information and alternative route suggestions for all WMATA services during the closure period.
