Arlington Bus Stop Shifts for Construction Work
Four WMATA bus routes detour to Ballston Station from April 20 to May 18 for construction
WMATA Closes Arlington Bus Stop for Construction
Four WMATA bus routes will detour to a different Arlington stop for nearly a month while construction closes their regular boarding location. The bus stop at North Fairfax Drive at North Utah Street closes April 20 and won't reopen until after May 18, transit officials said. Routes A58, A70, A76, and F50 will use Ballston Station Bus Bay K instead during the closure.

Construction Work Prompts Month-Long Closure
The stop closure accommodates construction work in Arlington's Ballston area, according to WMATA. The affected stop, identified as #6000530, serves as a regular boarding point for riders traveling on four different bus routes. Transit agencies typically close stops temporarily when construction, utility work, or street improvements make it unsafe or impossible for buses to access their normal locations. The alternative stop at Ballston Station Bus Bay K, identified as #6000531, already serves multiple routes and has infrastructure to handle the additional temporary traffic.
Four Routes Shift to Ballston Station Stop
All four affected routes—A58, A70, A76, and F50—will use the same alternative location throughout the closure period. Passengers who normally board at North Fairfax Drive at North Utah Street should instead go to Ballston Station Bus Bay K, which is located at the Ballston Metro station. WMATA didn't specify the walking distance between the closed stop and the temporary location. The transit authority said riders should allow extra travel time to reach the alternative boarding point and account for any schedule adjustments.
Closure Runs from Late April Through Mid-May
The stop closure takes effect Monday, April 20, 2026, and continues through Monday, May 18, 2026. Normal service at the original North Fairfax Drive location will resume after May 18, though WMATA didn't provide a specific reopening date. The transit agency encourages passengers to plan trips accordingly during the four-week closure period.

Riders Can Track Changes Through Transit Alerts
WMATA said passengers affected by the closure should expect minor changes to their regular commute patterns during the construction period. The transit authority didn't estimate how many daily riders use the affected stop. Riders can get real-time updates about the closure and other service changes through Moovit, which provides current bus locations and route information for WMATA's system throughout the Washington metro area.
